Shipping enterprise modules safely

Lessons from releasing multi-office commerce modules without drama — architecture boundaries, CI gates, and mentorship habits that compound.

Enterprise releases fail less often because of clever code and more often because of weak boundaries.

When shipping modules across offices, I treat each surface as a contract: domain rules stay inside the module, infrastructure stays replaceable, and CI is the shared language for quality.

Start with the failure mode

Before writing features, write down what must never break: auth, money movement, reporting lag, or deployment rollback. Those constraints decide which abstractions are worth the cost.

Keep CI boring

A green pipeline should mean the same thing for every engineer: tests ran, migrations checked, containers built, and smoke paths verified. Clever one-off release scripts are where weekends go to die.

Mentorship is a delivery tool

Walking juniors through domain-driven patterns early is slower for a sprint and faster for a quarter. Shared language reduces review thrash more than any linter rule.
